In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The most Merciful
FOREWORD
Presently more than half of world population comprise of Christians and Muslims. These great faiths, along with the small but economically and politically powerful Jews are linked to the common ancestor, the great patriarch and Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him). These civilizations have greatly influenced the whole world during last two millenniums. Despite believing in the same One God, which Abraham and his children worshiped, there is an element of suspicious, mistrust and hatred, developed trough long historically process.
Major chunk of Byzantine Empire and Spain fell to Muslims after 7th century. It was followed by the ‘Crusaders’, the series of wars fought from the late eleventh through the thirteenth centuries, in which European Christian kings and warriors on instigation of Popes, set out to gain control of the lands in which Jesus lived, known as the Holy Land. The Crusades had several lasting results, while exposing the Europeans to the goods, technology, and customs of Asia, they left lasting scars of animosity and hatred among the Christian (Western) and Islamic civilizations.
Islam is misunderstood due to many fallacies, which exist among Christians, non Muslims and even amongst some Muslims. The main reasons contributing towards these delusions are; historic, geopolitical, social, cultural, economic, and religious and lack of understanding of Islam, and its values due to restricted and subjective view. Attributing every violent act performed by some Muslims, to Islam is not fair. Islam is strictly the monotheist religion of ‘Peace’ literally and from core, it does not encourage violence or suicide, rather killing of innocent people is considered as a crime against humanity. (Qur’an:4:29, 5:32, 17:33). The legitimate warfare by the state is to be conducted strictly within laid down limits (Qur’an:2:216,190-193, 60:8-9).
Besides Abraham, Moses and other biblical prophets, Jesus Christ is highly revered by Muslims as the last Hebrew Prophet, miraculously born a belief also shared by many Christians. Qur’an goes a step farther by declaring Jesus and Mary as a Sign of God, for (Aayah-Li-Al-Alamen) the entire universe (Qur’an;21:91). Though the Jews not only reject and disbelieve in Jesus Christ but treat him with contempt. The two books: “Jesus Christ: Christianity and Bible”, and “Islam and the People of the Book (Jews & Christians)” are modest endeavor to present the pragmatic perspective of Jesus, Christianity, Bible and their relationship with Islam by synthesizing the works of great scholars. The commonalities of his teachings with Islam, which despite being obscured (under the subjective, tainted implausible views with the sole objective of supporting certain doctrines) by theologians with vested interests, still can be found even in the existing Scriptures. It is hoped this effort will contribute in removing some misconceptions and misunderstandings to bring the two great civilizations closer. Efforts have been made to be as precise as possible without any prejudice, or contempt. However error or omissions if any are incidental for which forgiveness from God is sought: “Our Lord! Do not punish us if we forget or make a mistake.”(Qur’an;2:286).
